Adult AI companion platforms are for adults only. All platforms we cover enforce 18+ age verification at registration. We only review platforms that enforce this — it's a non-negotiable baseline.

AI Companions Are Software
This isn't a criticism — it's something worth being clear about. AI companions are designed to feel emotionally resonant. That's what makes them compelling. But they're software, and the "relationship" is a simulation.
Healthy use means enjoying what these platforms genuinely offer — creative companionship, no-judgment interaction, roleplay — without substituting them for real human relationships or real-world challenges.
We encourage:
- Maintaining real-world social connections alongside AI companion use
- Setting personal time boundaries
- Seeking human support (therapist, friends, family) for real emotional challenges
Signs that use may have become unhealthy: preferring AI to human interaction, distress when access is unavailable, using AI interaction to avoid real-life problems.

Platforms we review must:
- Absolutely prohibit minor character depiction
- Enforce 18+ age verification at signup
- Comply with 18 U.S.C. 2257
- Provide user reporting tools for guideline violations
Protecting Your Data
AI companion platforms collect significant data. Before registering:
- Read the privacy policy — specifically data retention
- GirlfriendGPT keeps data for 6 years post-deletion (we document this in our reviews)
- Use unique email and password for AI companion accounts
- Know what persists after account deletion
